The second-generation XC60 (facelifted in 2021) and XC90 (facelifted in 2019) remain Volvo’s best-selling SUV models. The second-generation S60 and V60 offer sedan and wagon versions with elegant Scandinavian design. The XC40 and its electric EX40 version dominate the compact SUV segment, while the EX30 (from 2023) is Volvo’s entry-level electric option. The C40 Recharge and EC40 offer a SUV-coupe look in an electric format.
Recharge T6/T8 plug-in hybrid versions (on the XC60, XC90, S60 and V60) deliver 70–90 km of electric range, which is enough for most daily city drives. Fully electric EX40 and EC40 models with a 78 kWh battery offer a range of 400–500 km. The new EX30 with a smaller battery (51–69 kWh) is optimized for city and regional driving with a range of 340–480 km.
Volvo offers a 2-year warranty with no mileage limit, plus an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty for electric and plug-in hybrid models. In Montenegro, the authorized Volvo service network operates in Podgorica, while specialized independent workshops are most often used in northern regions. Parts are mainly ordered from the EU, which should be considered when planning major repairs.
Volvo officially ended diesel engine production in 2024. Newer models (2020+) are mostly B4/B5 mild-hybrid gasoline, T6/T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid, or fully electric. D3/D4 diesel engines are available only in models up to 2022.
The XC60 Recharge T8 with an 18.8 kWh battery offers a WLTP range of 80 km, while the real-world range in mixed driving is 55–70 km. Charging from a home outlet (3.6 kW AC) takes 5 hours, while DC fast charging is optional up to 50 kW.
The EX30 is more compact and more affordable, better suited to city driving and a single person or a small couple. The EX40 offers more space and comfort for a family, with better range. Both models support fast DC charging (up to 150 kW), making intercity trips practical as well.
