The starting point is the XC40 Recharge (renamed EX40 from 2024), a compact SUV with a 69 or 78 kWh battery and a range of up to 570 km. The C40 Recharge (EC40) is a SUV-coupe variant on the same platform. The smaller EX30 uses the Geely SEA platform with a 51 or 69 kWh battery and one or two motors. The flagship is the EX90, a large seven-seat SUV with a 111 kWh battery and a range of up to 600 km, as well as the ES90 sedan, which is just being launched.
The EX30 supports DC fast charging up to 153 kW and charges from 10 to 80% in about 27 minutes. The EX40 and EC40 support up to 150 kW (Twin Motor) or 130 kW (Single Motor). The newest EX90 supports up to 250 kW on 800V infrastructure. Single Motor versions have rear or front-wheel drive (depending on the model), while Twin Motor variants come with AWD and two motors. Performance versions of the EX30 and EX40 accelerate from 0–100 km/h in under 5 seconds.
The most important things are battery condition and remaining range — a Volvo service can issue a SoH report. Check whether the vehicle has an active factory battery warranty (8 years or 160,000 km with a guaranteed 70% capacity). Pay attention to software versions, especially on early XC40 Recharge models. For Montenegrin conditions, AWD Twin Motor variants are better suited to hilly terrain, and Montenegro’s DC charging network is already sufficient for travel within the country.
The EX30 is a smaller, more compact SUV (4.23 m long) built on the Geely SEA platform, which Volvo shares with the Smart and Zeekr brands. The EX40 (former XC40 Recharge) is a larger and roomier SUV (4.44 m) on the CMA platform, also used by the previous XC40 generation with an internal combustion engine.

On a 150 kW DC fast charger, the EX40/EC40 battery charges from 10 to 80% in about 27 minutes. The EX30 with a 69 kWh battery also charges quickly — about 27 minutes. On an 11 kW home wallbox, a full charge takes 6–8 hours.
