Volvo Recharge plug-in hybrids

Recharge PHEV models combine a 2.0 turbo petrol engine (with a supercharger on the T8) and an electric motor integrated into the rear axle, delivering AWD without a driveshaft. The T6 Recharge produces about 350 HP combined, while the T8 delivers over 400 HP. Batteries with capacities from 11.6 to 18.8 kWh provide 50 to 90 km of electric range, depending on the generation. Recharge is available in XC60, XC90, V60, V90, S60, and S90 models.

B-series 48V mild-hybrid

Since 2019/2020, Volvo has been gradually switching most internal combustion variants to 48V mild-hybrid systems — B3, B4, B5, and B6 badges. The system uses an integrated starter-generator that assists with starting and acceleration, enables coasting with the engine off, and supports regenerative braking. Real-world fuel savings are around 0.5 l/100 km. The B-series is available in petrol and diesel versions across almost all models.

What to check when buying

When buying a T8 Recharge plug-in model, battery condition and charging history are key. Ask for a Volvo service report showing battery health. Check whether the vehicle has been regularly charged from a socket, because constant petrol-only use shortens battery life. For 48V mild-hybrid models, check the condition of the auxiliary battery and the ISG (integrated starter generator) unit. In Montenegro, the Recharge T8 makes sense for owners with a home charger who drive shorter daily distances and use petrol mainly for trips.
