Škoda uses VW TDI diesel engines across its lineup, most often 1.6 TDI (75–115 HP) and 2.0 TDI (115–200 HP). The 1.6 TDI is fitted to the Fabia, Octavia and Karoq, while the 2.0 TDI is the standard option for the Superb, Kodiaq and stronger Octavia versions. The newer EA288 evo engine (from 2018) meets the Euro 6d standard with SCR system and AdBlue injection. Many models are available with DSG transmission and 4x4 drive.
When buying used Škoda TDI vehicles, it is important to check the service history, especially oil change intervals and DSG transmission servicing (every 60,000 km on models with DQ250 and DQ381). Check the condition of the DPF filter and EGR valve, which are common wear points on TDI engines. For the 2.0 TDI EA189 generation (up to 2015), ask about the status after the dieselgate software update — request documentation.
Škoda Octavia TDI is one of the best-selling used cars on the Montenegrin market thanks to its blend of space, low fuel consumption and affordable prices. The Octavia Combi is especially popular among families. The Superb TDI dominates the large sedan segment with a price significantly lower than premium rivals, while the Kodiaq and Karoq cover the SUV segment. The VAG service network is exceptionally well developed in Podgorica.
The 2.0 TDI EA288 generation (from 2014) and its EA288 evo evolution (from 2018) are considered very reliable with regular servicing. The 1.6 TDI is also durable, but with slightly more modest performance. With proper maintenance, these engines can exceed 300,000+ km.
A Škoda Octavia with the 2.0 TDI engine (150 HP) averages 5.2–5.8 l/100 km in combined driving. On the open road, consumption can drop below 5 l/100 km, while in the city it rises to around 6.5 l/100 km.
Service intervals and genuine parts are practically identical to Volkswagen because they share the same platform. However, some Škoda-branded parts can be more affordable, and used parts are easier to find due to the stronger presence of these models on the market.
