Generations and body styles

The Mégane III (2008–2016) and Mégane IV (2016–2022) are the most common generations on the Montenegrin market. Both are available as a hatchback, Grandtour estate and, in the third generation, as a coupe version. The Mégane IV brings a more modern interior, good driver-assistance systems and an optional R.S. Line trim package. The latest Mégane E-Tech Electric (from 2022) is a fully electric version on the new CMF-EV platform with a range of up to around 470 km on the WLTP cycle.

Engines and fuel consumption

The most sought-after engines are the 1.5 dCi and 1.6 dCi diesel units, as well as the 1.2 and 1.3 TCe petrol engines. Diesel versions typically use 4.5 to 6 liters per 100 km in combined driving. Petrol engines consume 5.5 to 7.5 liters, while the plug-in hybrid Mégane E-Tech (available only on the Grandtour estate version) can use significantly less with regular charging. The electric Mégane E-Tech comes with a 96 kW (130 HP) or 160 kW (218 HP) motor.

What to check when buying

Look for a service history, especially proof of regular oil and timing belt changes. On 1.5 dCi engines, pay attention to the turbocharger and oil consumption. With the EDC dual-clutch automatic transmission, check how smoothly it shifts at low speeds. Inspect the bodywork, especially the doors and trunk, and make sure the R-Link multimedia system works properly.
