Renault dCi diesel engines come in 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0 liter displacements. The most widespread is the 1.5 dCi, found in Clio, Megane, Captur and Kadjar models, and it is known for modest fuel consumption of around 4–5 l/100 km on the open road. The more powerful 1.6 dCi and 2.0 dCi power larger models such as the Scenic, Talisman and Trafic. Generations after 2015 meet the Euro 6 standard and use an AdBlue system to reduce emissions.
When buying used Renault dCi vehicles, it is important to check the condition of the DPF filter, EGR valve and turbocharger. Older 1.5 dCi generations (up to 2010) had known issues with turbocharger bearings and injectors, so ask for proof of any replacement. Service history with regular oil changes every 15,000 km is crucial for engine longevity. With a dual-mass flywheel, pay attention to unusual vibrations when pulling away.
Renault Megane and Clio with dCi engines make up a significant share of the used-car offer in Montenegro, primarily because of low fuel consumption and affordable spare parts. Renault’s service network is well developed in Podgorica, Nikšić and along the coast, which makes maintenance easier. Megane Grandtour and Kadjar 1.5 dCi are especially popular among buyers who cover higher mileage.
The Renault 1.5 dCi averages 4–5 liters per 100 km in combined driving. On the open road, consumption can drop below 4 l/100 km, while in city driving it rises to around 5.5 l/100 km.
Newer generations of dCi engines (from 2013 onward) have significantly improved reliability compared with earlier versions. With regular servicing and quality oil, these engines can cover 250,000–300,000 km without major issues.
