On the Montenegrin used Renault market, Clio (generations III, IV and V), Megane (III and IV) and Scenic dominate. Among SUV models, Captur and Kadjar are increasingly common. The most common engines are the 1.5 dCi diesel in various power outputs (75, 90, 110 HP) and the naturally aspirated 1.2 16V petrol, while newer model years bring the 1.3 TCe turbo petrol.
Older 1.5 dCi engines (up to 2010) can have issues with worn injectors and glow plugs, which may mean repairs from 400 to 1,000 EUR. On newer dCi engines, be sure to check the condition of the EGR valve and DPF filter. Megane III and IV can have issues with the electrical system and seat base. The EDC automated gearbox requires software updates and a preventive oil change every 60,000 km.
Used Renaults are most often sold in the range of 2,000 to 14,000 EUR. Older Clio and Megane models can be found below 4,000 EUR, newer Captur and Kadjar models from 8,000 to 14,000 EUR, while newer low-mileage examples can be more expensive. Parts are affordable and easy to find, and there are plenty of service centers, which makes maintenance easier.
Among the most reliable used Renault models are the Clio IV with 1.5 dCi (90 HP) and the Megane III with 1.5 dCi, provided the vehicle has been serviced regularly. Naturally aspirated 1.2 and 1.6 petrol engines in Clio and Megane models are also known for affordable maintenance.
Renault is among the cheaper brands to maintain on the Montenegrin market. A regular service costs 70–150 EUR, and spare parts are inexpensive and widely available. Special interventions on dCi engines (injectors, DPF) can cost 400–1,200 EUR.
Check the service history, the condition of the injectors and glow plugs on dCi engines, the operation of the EGR and DPF systems, and the gearbox status (especially the automated EDC). A diagnostic check of the electronic systems before making the final decision is also recommended.
