The most common used Peugeot models are 207, 208, 307 and 308, while the SUV segment is dominated by the 2008 and 3008. Older model years most often use 1.4 and 1.6 HDi diesel engines and 1.4 16V petrol engines, while newer years bring 1.5 BlueHDi and 1.2 PureTech turbo petrol. Estate versions of the 308 SW and 508 SW are also popular for family use.
Older 1.6 HDi engines (DV6) can suffer from worn turbochargers and clogged intake passages — repairs can cost €500–1,200. With 1.2 PureTech turbo petrol engines (from 2014), carefully check the condition of the timing belt in oil, as belt disintegration can cause major engine damage. EAT6/EAT8 automatics generally perform well, but they require preventive oil changes.
Used Peugeot cars are usually priced between €2,000 and €14,000. Older 207 and 307 models can be found for under €4,000, newer 208 and 308 models from €5,000 to €11,000, while 3008 and 5008 often exceed €10,000 for examples in good condition. Parts are affordable, and service centers are numerous in major cities as well as smaller towns.
Among the most reliable used Peugeot models are the 308 II with the 1.6 BlueHDi (from 2017) and the 3008 II with the same engine. The older 308 SW with the 1.6 HDi is also a good choice with regular maintenance. Buy 1.2 PureTech models only with proof of timing belt replacement.
Peugeot sits in the mid-range when it comes to maintenance costs. A regular service costs €80–180, and spare parts are widely available through the PSA network and independent suppliers. Major repairs on HDi engines (turbo, injectors) can cost €500–1,500.
Check the service history, the condition of the turbocharger and EGR valve on HDi engines, and the timing belt status on 1.2 PureTech engines. A diagnostic check at a specialized PSA service center is also recommended before making the final decision.
