The most common Mercedes-Benz SUV models are the GLC and GLE, offering E-Class comfort with a raised driving position. The compact GLA and GLB are popular as city family SUVs. The large GLS and rugged G-Class are less common, but they do appear from time to time in the premium offer. Older ML and GLK models still make up a significant share of the used-car market.
Mercedes-Benz SUV models most often come with OM651 (2.1 diesel) and OM654 (2.0 diesel) engines, as well as 3.0 V6 diesel units in larger models. Petrol versions offer engines from 2.0 to 3.0 litres, while AMG versions feature a 4.0 V8 biturbo. Plug-in hybrids with the EQ Power badge are also increasingly available, along with fully electric EQ models. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is available on most models.
When buying a used Mercedes-Benz SUV, look for a complete service history and proof that maintenance was carried out by an authorized or specialized service center. On 7G-Tronic and 9G-Tronic transmissions, the oil should be changed every 60,000 to 80,000 km. Check the condition of the air suspension (Airmatic) on larger models, as repairs can be expensive. On OM651 diesel engines, pay attention to the injectors and timing chain on earlier generations.
The GLC is the most sought-after Mercedes-Benz SUV. It offers a combination of comfort, size and reasonable fuel consumption, most often with a 2.0 diesel engine and 4MATIC drive. The GLE is popular in the premium segment.
4MATIC is an all-wheel-drive system that automatically distributes power between the front and rear axles. It improves stability and traction in winter conditions and on rough Montenegrin roads.
Airmatic air suspension provides excellent comfort, but its components (air springs and compressor) have a limited service life. Repairs can cost from several hundred to several thousand euros, so when buying, check whether the system maintains the correct ride height on all wheels.
