The most common BMW SUV models on the Montenegrin market are the X3 and X5, offering a balance of comfort and off-road capability. The compact X1 is popular as a city SUV, while the X6 attracts buyers looking for a coupe-like silhouette and sporty character. Larger X7 versions and M-badged models are rarer, but they occasionally appear in the premium offer. Most available examples come with xDrive all-wheel drive.
BMW SUV models on the local market most often come with 2.0d and 3.0d diesel engines, which offer a good balance of fuel economy and performance. Petrol versions such as 20i, 30i and 40i are rarer, but are found in newer examples. Plug-in hybrid models with the xDrive45e badge, as well as the fully electric iX3 and iX, are appearing more often. The xDrive permanent all-wheel-drive system is standard on most models and well suited to Montenegro’s mountain roads.
When buying a used BMW SUV, look for a full service history and proof of regular oil changes in the engine and differentials. Check the timing chain condition on N47 diesel engines and early B47 generations, as well as turbocharger operation. On xDrive models, periodic inspection of the transfer case and driveshaft is important. A diagnosis at an authorised or specialised service is recommended before making a final decision, especially for higher-mileage examples.

The B47 generation (2.0d) and B57 (3.0d) are considered more reliable than the earlier N47 engines. For all variants, regular oil changes every 10,000–15,000 km and checking the DPF filter and EGR valve are key.
A regular service (oil, filters, brakes) for an X3 or X5 costs from 200 to 500 EUR. Bigger jobs such as timing chain replacement or automatic transmission service can be much more expensive, so a specialised service with BMW diagnostics is recommended.
