Light trucks up to 7.5 tons include models with open box bodies, tarpaulins, refrigerated bodies, tipper bodies and other specialized superstructures. The most common models on the Montenegrin market are Iveco Daily, Mercedes-Benz Atego and Sprinter (4x4 and chassis variants), MAN TGL, Renault Maxity, Mitsubishi Fuso Canter and Isuzu N-series. Most are equipped with diesel engines from 3.0 to 5.0 liters and a manual or automated gearbox.
Light trucks are used in construction, goods distribution, transport of building materials, beverage and food delivery, and municipal services. Dump trucks are popular on the coast for transporting gravel and construction waste, while refrigerated trucks are indispensable in food and beverage distribution. In Montenegro, vehicles up to 7.5 tons gross weight are driven with a C1 driving licence.
Check the tachograph, service history and original mileage, as commercial vehicles are often used intensively. Pay attention to the condition of the body and superstructure, chassis frame corrosion, and the hydraulic system on dump trucks. For diesel engines, the condition of the turbocharger, DPF filter and injectors is important. Also check the date of the next technical inspection — commercial vehicles are inspected more frequently than passenger cars. Prices for used light trucks range from €8,000 to €40,000 depending on year, equipment and condition.
To drive commercial vehicles with a gross weight over 3.5 up to 7.5 tons, a C1 licence is required. To drive a truck with a trailer over 750 kg gross weight, a C1E licence is required.
Average consumption depends on load and body type, but it most often ranges between 11 and 17 l/100 km. Tippers and refrigerated vehicles can use more than standard box trucks in operation.
Vehicles with a gross weight over 3.5 tons used commercially must have a digital tachograph. The driver must also have a tachograph card issued by the competent authority.
