The first-generation 4L (2005–2015) is based on the PL71 platform shared with the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. The current 4M (from 2015) uses the MLB Evo platform with significant weight reduction. The 4M brings the virtual cockpit, advanced driver assistance systems, optional air suspension and TFSI e plug-in hybrid variants. The SQ7 is the sporty high-performance version with a 4.0 TDI or TFSI V8 engine.
The most sought-after diesel versions are the 3.0 TDI (218–286 KS) and 4.0 TDI (435 KS in the SQ7). The petrol 3.0 TFSI delivers 333 KS. The 55 TFSI e/60 TFSI e plug-in hybrid offers 40–80 km of electric range. quattro drive is standard, and the optional air suspension allows ride-height adjustment — useful for driving off main roads and getting into lower garages.
For the 4L generation, check the condition of the 3.0 TDI engine (possible issues with intake manifold swirl flaps) and the air suspension. On the 4M, pay attention to the electronics, the automatic ZF8HP transmission and the driver assistance systems. The third and fourth seats are recommended to be tested due to their size — they are mainly suitable for children or shorter trips. A CARFAX report is recommended for imported vehicles.
The Audi Q7 3.0 TDI with quattro drive averages 7–9 l/100 km in mixed driving. In city driving, consumption rises to 9–11 l/100 km, while on open roads it can be 6–7 l/100 km. The 55 TFSI e plug-in hybrid has a much lower official consumption with regular charging.
The third row of seats in the Q7 is primarily intended for children or shorter passengers on shorter trips. Access is made easier by sliding the second-row bench. With all seven seats raised, the boot drops to about 295 litres, and with the third row folded it grows to 770 litres.
Regular service (oil, filters, brakes) costs EUR 250–500. Major repairs such as air suspension, automatic transmission or EGR system replacement can reach EUR 1,500–4,000. Servicing at authorised or specialised VAG workshops is recommended.
