On the Montenegrin market, the 8R (2008–2017) and the current FY (since 2017) are available. The 8R brought proven TDI engines and reliable mechanicals. The FY generation uses the MLB Evo platform, adds the virtual cockpit, more advanced driver assistance systems, and plug-in hybrid TFSI e variants. The SQ5 is the sporty version with a more powerful engine and sport suspension.
The most sought-after diesel versions are the 2.0 TDI (143–190 HP) and 3.0 TDI (218–286 HP) with fuel consumption of 6–8 l/100 km. The petrol 2.0 TFSI offers 211–252 HP. The current FY generation comes with a 12V or 48V mild-hybrid system, and the 50 TFSI e plug-in hybrid can cover up to 60 km in electric mode. quattro is standard on almost all versions and is especially useful for Montenegro’s road conditions.
On the 8R 3.0 TDI engines, check the condition of the intake manifold swirl flaps. On 2.0 TDI EA189 engines, pay attention to whether the technical modification has been carried out. S tronic and Tiptronic gearboxes require regular oil servicing. Check the air suspension (optional on the FY) for proper operation — components are expensive to replace. A CARFAX report is recommended for imported vehicles from Germany and the USA.
The Audi Q5 2.0 TDI with quattro averages 6–7 l/100 km in combined driving. The 3.0 TDI version uses 7–8 l/100 km, while the 50 TFSI e plug-in hybrid can achieve much lower consumption with regular battery charging.
The Q5 generally has a good reputation for reliability, especially the 8R generation with 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI engines after 2013. The FY generation is more technologically advanced but requires greater investment in electronics and gearbox maintenance. Service history is key to a successful purchase.
