Audi diesel (TDI) cars

The 2.0 TDI from the EA288 generation (from 2014) and the 3.0 V6 TDI EA897 evo (from 2017) are considered very reliable with regular maintenance. The older EA189 generation is also durable, but models from the dieselgate period required mandatory software updates.

Routine servicing is in line with other premium brands. Expensive repairs (timing chain replacement, CP4 pump, dual-mass flywheel) can reach €2,000–4,000 — so a thorough pre-purchase inspection is important.

Quattro models have better traction, especially in winter conditions and on Montenegro’s mountain roads, but they use about 0.5 l/100 km more and are more expensive to maintain (Haldex service, two differentials).

AdBlue is standard on all Euro 6 TDI engines. It uses around 1.5 l per 1,000 km. The system can develop faults that are expensive to fix — service checks and high-quality fluid are recommended.
