The Audi A3 comes in the 8P (2003–2012), 8V (2012–2020), and 8Y (from 2020) generations. Body styles include the Sportback (five-door hatchback), Sedan, and earlier Cabriolet. The 8V generation introduced the MQB platform, modern LED lighting, and the virtual cockpit, while the 8Y adds plug-in hybrid TFSI e variants. All generations also offer the sporty S3 and RS3 models.
The most popular diesel variants in Montenegro are the 1.6 TDI (105–116 HP) and 2.0 TDI (143–184 HP), with combined fuel consumption of 4–5 l/100 km. Petrol versions such as the 1.0 TFSI, 1.5 TFSI, and 2.0 TFSI deliver 5–7 l/100 km. The S tronic dual-clutch transmission is a common choice — check the transmission service history (oil change recommended every 60,000 km).
On 8P and early 8V models with the 1.4 TFSI engine, timing chain issues are known — ask for proof of replacement or inquire about its condition. For 2.0 TDI EA189 engines, check whether the technical update was completed after the dieselgate scandal. The S tronic DSG transmission requires careful use and regular servicing. A CARFAX report is useful for imported vehicles from Germany and Austria.
For everyday driving and lower running costs, the 1.6 TDI or 2.0 TDI diesel is recommended, with average consumption of 4–5 l/100 km. If you mostly drive in the city and cover less than 15,000 km per year, the petrol 1.0 or 1.5 TFSI is a more practical choice with lower maintenance costs.
The S tronic (DSG) transmission is reliable with regular servicing — an oil change every 60,000 km is recommended. The older DQ250 gearbox requires more careful use, while the DQ381 (from 2017) is better proven in newer models. Check the transmission service history before buying.
The Sportback has a five-door hatchback body style with a practical 380-litre trunk and folding seats. The Sedan offers a classic three-box design and a slightly larger 425-litre trunk, but less loading flexibility. The Sedan is rarer on the Montenegrin market.
