The main representatives are the ID.3 (a compact hatchback in the Golf class), the ID.4 and ID.5 (mid-size SUV and SUV coupe), and the ID.7 (large sedan/wagon). The lineup also includes the commercial ID. Buzz van and the limited fully electric e-up!, which was discontinued in 2023. The latest ID. models use 52, 58 and 77 kWh batteries (net capacity) and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive (GTX versions).
The VW ID.3 and ID.4 with the 58 kWh battery offer a WLTP range of around 420 km, while versions with the 77 kWh battery can reach up to 550 km. DC fast charging supports up to 135 kW (earlier generations up to 125 kW), so the battery charges from 10 to 80% in 30–35 minutes. On AC charging, ID. models support 11 kW three-phase charging. The e-up! with a 32.3 kWh battery has a range of around 260 km and is used as a city car.
The most important thing is the battery SoH (State of Health) — VW can issue a report through its service. Check the software version, because early ID.3/ID.4 models (2020–2021) had known software issues that were resolved via OTA updates and service actions. The battery warranty normally lasts 8 years or 160,000 km, provided the SoH stays above 70%. In Montenegro, the DC charging network is expanding, with new locations on the Adriatic highway and in Podgorica.
The ID.4 is a classic SUV with an upright tailgate, while the ID.5 is an SUV coupe with a sloping rear roofline. Technically they are almost identical — they use the same MEB platform and the same powertrains, with the difference mainly being styling and a slightly smaller trunk in the ID.5.
On a 135 kW DC fast charger, the 58 kWh battery charges from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes. On a home 11 kW wallbox unit, a full charge takes 6 to 8 hours, which suits overnight charging.
Early versions of the ID.3 and ID.4 (2020–2021) had a number of software issues, including infotainment and driver-assistance system bugs. VW has since released multiple OTA updates, and newer 2023 models have significantly more stable software.
