BMW i3 (2013–2022) is a compact EV with a carbon chassis and a range of 200–310 km depending on the battery generation (60/94/120 Ah). iX3 (from 2021) is the electric version of the X3, with an 80 kWh battery and a range of up to 460 km. i4 (M50, eDrive40) is an elegant Gran Coupé with a range of up to 590 km. iX is the flagship electric SUV with a range of up to 630 km. i5 and i7 share their platform with the petrol and diesel Series 5 and 7.
BMW EV models support AC charging up to 11 kW (except early i3 versions) and DC fast charging from 50 to 200 kW. iX and i4 can go from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes on a 150 kW charger. In Montenegro, the number of fast chargers is still limited, but the network is expanding (Podgorica, Bar, Budva, the Bar–Boljare motorway). For everyday use, an AC home charging station is enough for most drivers.
Most electric BMWs in Montenegro are imported from Germany and the Netherlands, where they were sold with state subsidies, making them price-competitive. When buying a used EV, be sure to check the battery’s SoH (state of health) via BMW diagnostics — a recommended minimum is 85% after 100,000 km. Battery warranty is usually 8 years or 160,000 km, which also applies to imported examples.
The iX3 is a fully electric vehicle with an 80 kWh battery and a range of up to 460 km. The X3 xDrive30e is a plug-in hybrid with a small battery (around 12 kWh) for about 50 km of electric driving and a 2.0 petrol engine for the rest.
BMW diagnostics (ISTA) is recommended, as it shows battery SoH in percent. Values above 85% for vehicles with 100,000+ km are considered good.
