Most of the used Fiat offer consists of Punto (Grande Punto and Punto Evo), 500, Panda and Tipo. Older model years often feature 1.2 8V and 1.4 8V naturally aspirated petrol engines, as well as the 1.3 Multijet diesel engine. Newer model years introduce 1.0 and 1.2 FireFly petrol engines and the 1.6 Multijet diesel in the Tipo. Among SUV/crossover models, the 500X and the compact 500L MPV are represented.
The 1.3 Multijet engine is generally reliable, but neglected examples often have issues with a worn turbocharger, cylinder head and injectors. The 1.2 8V petrol is simple and cheap to service, but offers modest performance. On Punto and 500 models, electrical issues are common (wipers, alarm, central locking), as well as corrosion on the sills and wheel arches. The robotized Dualogic gearbox is best avoided.
A used Fiat is usually in the range of 1,500 to 9,000 EUR. Older Punto and Panda models can be found for under 3,000 EUR, while the Fiat 500 is usually in the 3,500–7,500 EUR range. Tipo and 500X start from 6,000 to 11,000 EUR for newer examples in good condition. Parts are among the cheapest on the market, and Fiat service shops are easy to find in every larger town.
Among the most reliable used Fiat models are the Panda with the 1.2 8V petrol engine and the Punto with the 1.4 8V petrol engine — both are simple, inexpensive to service and proven in everyday use. The Tipo with the 1.6 Multijet diesel also performs well with regular maintenance.
Fiat is among the cheapest brands to maintain. A regular service (oil, filters) costs 50–130 EUR, and spare parts are inexpensive and easy to source. Larger repairs on the 1.3 Multijet engine (turbo, cylinder head) can cost 500–1,200 EUR.
Check the bodywork for corrosion, the electrical system, turbocharger and injector operation on Multijet engines, and the gearbox condition (avoid Dualogic). A pre-purchase inspection at an independent service center is also recommended.
