On the used car market, the most common generations are C6 (2004–2011), C7 (2011–2018) and C8 (2018–present). Avant estate versions remain in steady demand, while the Allroad variant with raised suspension and quattro drive is popular with drivers who often travel off paved roads.
For C6 and C7 models with 2.7 and 3.0 TDI engines, common issues include timing chain problems, EGR valves and oil consumption. Check the condition of the DPF filter and AdBlue system on newer examples. The air suspension on some versions can leak and require replacement of the air springs. The S tronic gearbox should be serviced regularly. Quattro models require inspection of the differentials and driveshaft.
Used Audi A6 prices start at around 5,000 EUR for older C6 models and go to over 50,000 EUR for newer C8 Avant examples with full equipment. A large number of cars were imported from Germany. The most sought-after versions are 3.0 TDI quattro models, as well as 2.0 TDI Ultra variants thanks to their efficiency.
The C7 facelift (2014–2018) with the 2.0 TDI Ultra or 3.0 TDI CRT engine has proven reliable in everyday use. The C8 generation offers the most modern technology and a mild-hybrid system, but it requires a higher budget for purchase and maintenance.
The 3.0 TDI V6 engine delivers excellent performance with reasonable fuel consumption (6.5–8 l/100 km). Older CAPA and CDYA versions may have a risk of timing chain stretch, while later CRT and CVMD units are significantly more reliable.
Air suspension offers a very high level of comfort, but the compressor and air springs can start leaking over time. Replacing individual components is a standard repair and is done by specialized workshops.
