The Audi A4 (B8 and B9) and A6 (C7 and C8) are the most sought-after sedans on the Montenegrin used-car market. The SUV offer is led by the Q5 (8R and 80A) and Q7. In older model years, 2.0 TDI engines with CR Common-Rail injection (CAGA, CAHA, CGLD, CJCA, CSUA) dominate, while newer years bring 2.0 TFSI petrol engines and an increasing number of plug-in hybrid TFSI e versions.
With earlier-generation 2.0 TDI engines, check the condition of the EGR valve, DPF filter and intercooler — clogged intake manifolds are a common issue. With 2.0 TFSI engines (EA113 and EA888 gen 1), common problems include the timing chain, oil pump with balance shafts and oil consumption caused by piston rings. The Multitronic transmission (CVT) in older A4/A6 models is best avoided unless there is documented service history; the S tronic (DQ250, DQ500) requires an oil change every 60,000 km and a mechatronics check.
Audi has a well-developed service network in Podgorica, as well as a number of specialized independent workshops across Montenegro that work with VAG diagnostics (VCDS/ODIS). Parts are readily available through the authorized importer or trusted suppliers from the EU. When buying a used Audi, a VCDS diagnostic is a must — it reveals all stored faults and service interval status that are not visible on a standard scanner.
Among diesel engines, the 2.0 TDI EA288 (from 2014) and 3.0 TDI CDYA/CRCA stand out — well engineered and durable with regular servicing.
