Since 2012, the Model S has gone through several updates, including the 2016 redesign (a front end without the black nose cone) and the major 2021 facelift (a new interior with a horizontal screen and yoke steering wheel). Current versions include Dual Motor (around 670 HP) and Plaid (over 1020 HP) with three electric motors and 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 2.1 seconds.
Current versions offer WLTP range of up to around 634 km (Dual Motor) and 600 km (Plaid). The Model S supports DC fast charging via the Tesla Supercharger network (up to 250 kW), as well as the CCS standard for public fast chargers. Home charging via a Wallbox system (up to 11 kW) is recommended for everyday use. The large battery means less frequent charging on longer trips.
For older examples, check the battery condition and its degradation through the Tesla app. Inspect the MCU (Media Control Unit) as early generations had issues with eMMC memory (later replaced under warranty). Check the suspension — for cars with air suspension, it is important that the system is in full working order. The battery pack warranty is 8 years or 240,000 km.
Plaid is the top-performance version with three electric motors, over 1020 HP, and 0-100 km/h acceleration in about 2.1 seconds. It is one of the fastest production cars ever built.
In real-world conditions, the Dual Motor version delivers 500–600 km of range depending on driving style, temperature, and speed. The WLTP figure is around 634 km.
Yes, the first MCU (Media Control Unit) generations with eMMC memory had failure issues after a certain number of writes. Tesla carried out replacements under a technical program for affected vehicles. Check whether the replacement has been done if you are considering an older example.
