The E-Class has a long history that goes back to the W124 model from the 1980s. The current and most sought-after generations on the Montenegrin market are W211 (2002–2009), W212 (2009–2016), W213 (2016–2023) and the new W214 (from 2023). Each generation has brought major improvements in safety, comfort and technology, including semi-autonomous driving systems in newer models.
The most popular versions on the Montenegrin market are the diesel E 220 d, E 250 d and E 350 d, which offer low fuel consumption and excellent long-distance performance. Petrol E 200, E 250 and E 300 models provide quieter operation. AMG E 53 and E 63 belong to the high-performance category. Rear-wheel drive is standard, while 4MATIC AWD is available as an option on most models. The current generation also includes plug-in hybrid versions.
When buying a used E-Class, service history and vehicle origin are the most important factors. Check the operation of the 9G-TRONIC or 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox, and oil changes should be done at the recommended intervals. On models with AIRMATIC air suspension, pay special attention to the condition of the air springs and compressor. Also inspect the electronics, screens and the COMAND/MBUX system. An independent diagnostic inspection at an authorised service centre is recommended before purchase.
The best represented generations are W211, W212 and W213. W212 (2009–2016) and W213 (2016–2023) are most often offered in good condition with diesel E 220 CDI/d and E 250 CDI/d engines.
With regular servicing, OM651 and OM654 diesel engines are long-lasting. Maintenance costs are higher than for compact cars, but they are predictable. The biggest items are oil and filter changes, plus periodic automatic transmission servicing.
The S-Class is larger and more exclusive — Mercedes introduces its most advanced premium technologies in the S-Class first. The E-Class offers a very similar level of comfort and technology, but in more compact dimensions and at a more accessible price.
