Most of the offers in this range are W211 E-Class (2002–2009) with the popular E220 CDI engine and W203 C-Class (2000–2007) with the C220 CDI unit. The newer W204 C-Class and W212 E-Class are occasionally listed at the lower end of the budget. The A-Class (W169) and B-Class (W245) appear as compact family solutions, while the SLK 200 and CLK 200 are the most common in the convertible and coupe segment.
OM611 and OM646 diesel engines (220 CDI) are known for injector issues and diesel mixing with oil — check the oil level and smell before buying. On the W211, the SBC brake system electronics (up to 2006) and corrosion on the sills and boot lid are common. For the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission, it is important that the oil has been changed every 60,000–80,000 km. For CDI versions, also pay attention to EGR cooler leaks and the condition of the turbo actuator.
Mercedes has a well-developed independent service network in Montenegro, especially in Podgorica. Parts for the W203, W211 and C/E-Class are easy to find, and the used-parts market is very active. Bodywork repairs and anti-corrosion treatment are worthwhile investments for older examples that are often driven on the coast.
With documented service history and updated electronics, the W211 E220 CDI from the 2006–2009 period is among the more reliable used cars. Check the condition of the injectors, SBC brakes (up to 2006) and corrosion on the sills and side trims.
A set of four reconditioned injectors with installation at an independent service in Montenegro usually costs €350–700. New original injectors with installation can exceed €1,200.
The first-generation A-Class (W169) and B-Class (W245) are economical and easy to maintain. The most common issues are the CVT transmission (on Autotronic versions) and worn shock absorbers. A manual gearbox with a petrol engine is the safest choice.
