E60, F10 and G30 Generations

The most common generations on the market are E60/E61 (2003–2010), F10/F11 (2010–2017) and G30/G31 (2017–2023). The F10 is especially sought after thanks to the combination of modern technology and durable mechanics — N57 and B47 diesel engines are considered reliable with regular servicing. The G30 brings more advanced driver assistance systems, a lighter chassis and the 530e plug-in hybrid variant. The Touring version is rare but in demand for family use and business needs.

Engines and Performance

The most popular diesel versions in Montenegro are 520d, 525d and 530d. The 530d with the inline-six N57/B57 engine delivers 258–286 HP and excellent torque, making it ideal for highway and mountain roads. Petrol 520i, 530i and 540i use turbocharged B48 and B58 engines. M Performance versions (M550d, M550i) and the M5 belong to the premium segment, while the 530e plug-in hybrid offers a combined fuel consumption below 2 l/100 km on paper.

What to Check When Buying

For F10 generation cars, check the engine vacuum pump and EGR system, which can cause power loss. On xDrive models, pay attention to the operation of the power transfer to the front axle and the condition of the driveshaft. The ZF8 automatic gearbox should be serviced every 80,000–100,000 km. For imported vehicles from Germany and Austria, a CARFAX/AutoDNA report and a check of provenance are recommended.
