Most Important BMW Petrol Engines

In newer generations, the most common engines are the 2.0 turbo units (B48) in the 320i, 330i, 520i, X1 and X3 versions with 156–258 HP. The 3.0 inline six (B58) in the 340i, 440i, 540i and X4 M40i delivers 320–387 HP and outstanding sound. Older N20 (2.0 turbo) and N55 (3.0 turbo) generations also appear frequently on the used-car market. M Performance and M models (M2, M3, M4, X3M, X5M) use high-performance S-series engines.

What to Check When Buying

For N20 engines, check the timing chain — on earlier series (up to 2014) stretching may occur. N55 and B58 engines do not have this issue. The vacuum pump, Valvetronic motor and high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) are typical inspection points. On all turbo models, monitor oil consumption and turbocharger condition. M Package cars often have been driven more aggressively, so they require a more detailed inspection of the brakes, suspension and bodywork.

Market Trends in Montenegro

In Montenegro, BMW gasoline models have become more popular in recent years, especially among buyers who want the look of an M Package and sporty driving without diesel complications. Most are imported from the EU (Germany, Italy), and the best sellers are 320i and 520i. Prices for a 330i with M Package (G20 generation) start from €28,000 and up for a newer example with low mileage. An older E90 320i can also be found for under €6,000.
