The most sought-after are SUV models such as Škoda Kodiaq Sportline, VW Tiguan R-Line, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Volvo XC60 and Mercedes GLC. Among sporty sedans and wagons, the BMW 5 Series G30, Audi A6 C7/C8, Mercedes E-Class W213 and Volvo V90 aged 4–7 years are especially popular. The hybrid and electric segment is also taking a larger share — Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Volvo XC60 Recharge, BMW iX1 and Tesla Model 3.
In this range, adaptive cruise control, full LED or matrix headlights, navigation with real-time data, a head-up display on certain models, and a 360-degree camera on well-equipped SUV versions are standard. AWD is present in almost all premium SUV versions, while automatic transmissions (ZF 8HP, DSG, 9G-Tronic) are the norm. For hybrid versions, expect quiet driving and fuel consumption of 5–6 l/100 km in mixed use.
In Montenegro, more and more vehicles in this range are sold through authorized dealers as certified pre-owned cars with remaining warranty (Volvo Selekt, BMW Premium Selection, Mercedes-Benz Certified). When importing from the EU, prepare for 21% VAT, excise duty based on engine displacement and emissions, and homologation costs. Banks offer car loans for this segment with 6–9% interest and a 20% down payment. Comprehensive insurance for a 4-year-old premium SUV typically costs 500–900 EUR per year.
Local supply through authorized dealers often offers certified pre-owned vehicles with warranty, which reduces risk. Importing from the EU can be more affordable, but it requires careful verification of origin and complete documentation, as well as calculation of VAT, excise duty and homologation.
Volvo XC60 and Škoda Kodiaq Sportline offer the best balance of equipment and price in this range. Among German brands, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 with B+W or matrix equipment packages are competitive, but usually at a higher price for the same age.
For a premium SUV aged 3–6 years, annual costs (service, tires, registration, comprehensive insurance) are usually 1,500–2,500 EUR. Authorized service centers in Podgorica and on the coast offer regular maintenance packages at fixed prices.
