Audi TFSI e Plug-in Hybrid

The Audi TFSI e badge identifies plug-in hybrid models that combine a petrol TFSI engine with an electric motor integrated into the gearbox. The most common examples are the A3 40/45 TFSI e, A6 50 TFSI e, A7 55 TFSI e, Q5 50/55 TFSI e and Q7/Q8 60 TFSI e. Electric range is between 40 and 80 km depending on battery capacity (most often 14.4 or 17.9 kWh), which covers typical daily needs.

MHEV and Mild Hybrid Models

A large part of the modern Audi lineup uses a 48V mild-hybrid system, found in 3.0 TDI and 3.0 TFSI engines in the A6, A7, A8, Q7 and Q8. The system enables coasting with the engine off, faster start-stop cycles and a mild electric boost during acceleration, reducing consumption by 0.5–0.7 l/100 km. Smaller models with the 1.5 TFSI engine use a 12V MHEV version.

What to Check When Buying

For plug-in hybrids, battery health and remaining electric range are key — ask for a service report from an Audi service centre. Check whether the previous owner charged the battery regularly, because long-term use only on petrol does not take advantage of the system. For 48V MHEV models, the condition of the auxiliary battery and the belt connecting the generator are important. In Montenegro, a PHEV makes sense for drivers who cover shorter daily trips, with regular charging at home or at work.
