The market is most commonly home to the W211 (2002–2009), W212 (2009–2016), W213 (2016–2023) and the latest W214. The T-Model (estate) is popular for family and business use, while Coupe and Cabrio versions are less common but in demand. Models with AMG Line equipment achieve stronger resale value.
On the W211, pay attention to corrosion and the condition of the SBC braking system on earlier models. On the W212 diesel with the OM651 engine, check the balance shafts and injectors, while the W213 is generally more reliable with regular servicing. The AIRMATIC air suspension can start leaking over time, so it needs a thorough inspection. 7G-Tronic and 9G-Tronic gearboxes are reliable with regular oil changes.
Used E-Class prices range from around EUR 4,500 for a W211 to over EUR 60,000 for a newer W213/W214 with rich equipment. The most in-demand versions are the E 220 d and E 350 d with the AMG Line package and 4MATIC drivetrain. A large number of examples were imported from Germany and Austria.
The W212 facelift (2013–2016) and W213 (2016–2023) are considered very reliable with regular servicing. The older W211 can be affordable, but it requires a careful body inspection for corrosion and electronics.
The E 220 d averages 5–6.5 l/100 km in mixed driving. On open roads, consumption often drops below 5 l/100 km, while in the city it is more often 6–7.5 l/100 km.
AIRMATIC offers a high level of comfort, but the compressor and air springs can start leaking over time. Replacing individual components is a standard repair in specialized workshops and costs several hundred euros per component.
