What Is Tiptronic and How Does It Work
The name “Tiptronic” was introduced by Porsche in 1990, and today it is used as a general term for all classic automatics that also offer manual gear control. With these transmissions, the driver can take over at any moment — by moving the selector into a special position (M or +/-) or by using paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. The transmission still uses a torque converter, so there is no risk of clutch overheating like with DCT/DSG systems.
