Octavia 2 (1Z, 2004–2013) with the 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines is the most sought-after model in this range thanks to its spacious cabin and low running costs. Early Octavia 3 models (2013–2015) are occasionally found at the upper end of the budget. Fabia 2 and 3 are popular for city driving, while the Yeti (2009–2017) offers a raised seating position in a compact package. Superb 2 (2008–2015) delivers great practicality at an exceptional price.
The Octavia 2 with the 1.9 TDI PD engine is the most reliable choice — check the flywheel and injector pump condition. The 2.0 TDI PD has the same camshaft issue as VW models (most often on the BKD engine code). The common-rail 2.0 TDI (from 2009) is significantly more reliable. For 1.2 and 1.4 TSI engines, pay attention to oil consumption and the timing chain. The Octavia also commonly suffers from tailgate corrosion on earlier examples.
Over the past decade, Škoda has become a very popular brand in Montenegro thanks to its reliability and low maintenance costs. Parts are practically identical to VW components, so sourcing is easy. All VAG specialist service centres also service Škoda, and diagnostics (VCDS) is widely available. Its reputation for “smart buying” makes this brand especially sought after in the used-car segment.

The Yeti offers a raised seating position, an adjustable rear bench (3 separate seats), and more compact dimensions. The Octavia is roomier for luggage and provides better comfort on long trips. The Yeti is popular as a city choice with mini-SUV characteristics.
