Types of Vessels

Vessels are divided into open boats and speedboats for day trips, rigid-hull inflatable RIB boats, cabin cruisers for longer journeys, sailing boats and motor yachts with multiple seats. The most common engine makers are Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, Mercury and Tohatsu, while hull brands most often include Bayliner, Quicksilver, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Bavaria and various European RIB brands. Engine power ranges from 5 HP for small speedboats to over 300 HP on larger vessels.

Use in Montenegro

Boka Bay, the open Adriatic Sea and Lake Skadar are the main boating areas in Montenegro. RIBs and open boats are popular for day trips along the coast, fishing and water sports. Larger motor yachts and sailing boats are used for cruises to Croatia, Italy and Greece. The boat market is seasonal, but transactions take place throughout the year, with a peak in spring.

What to Consider When Buying

When buying a used vessel, check the condition of the hull, gelcoat and underwater section, especially the keel. The outboard engine should be tested in operation, with attention paid to cylinder compression, exhaust smoke and the condition of the propeller. Check that the equipment is in order — safety gear, navigation lights, GPS and radio equipment. The vessel must have a valid registration certificate and proper technical inspections. Used boat prices range from €2,000 for small dinghies to over €100,000 for larger cabin yachts.
