PureTech is Peugeot's range of three-cylinder turbo petrol engines with 1.0 and 1.2-litre displacement. The most popular version is the 1.2 PureTech 130, fitted to the 208, 2008, 308 and 3008, delivering 130 HP with fuel consumption of 5.5–6 l/100 km. There is also the 1.6 THP / PureTech 180/225 for sportier versions such as the 308 GT. PureTech engines have won multiple awards in the International Engine of the Year competition.
Earlier PureTech engines (up to 2018) were known to have issues with the timing belt rubbing in the engine oil bath, which can lead to excessive oil consumption and engine failure. For these models, look for proof of preventive belt replacement before 100,000 km. Also check oil consumption between services, as it may indicate worn piston rings.
The Peugeot 208 and 2008 with PureTech engines dominate the offer in the city car and compact SUV segments. Prices for used examples aged 3–5 years in Montenegro usually range from €9,000 to €18,000, depending on equipment and mileage. Affordable spare parts and a well-developed service network make Peugeot petrol a practical choice for everyday driving.
Newer generations of the 1.2 PureTech engine (from 2019 onward) are significantly more reliable because Peugeot redesigned the timing belt and oil drainage system. On older examples, it is important to check the service history and preventive belt replacement according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
The Peugeot 308 with the 1.2 PureTech 130 engine averages 5.5–6.2 l/100 km in combined driving. In the city, consumption can reach up to 7 l/100 km, while on open roads it drops to around 5 l/100 km.
PureTech turbo petrol engines are designed for petrol with an octane rating of 95 or higher. For optimal performance in high-temperature conditions, 98-octane petrol is recommended, especially for sportier versions.
