On the Montenegro market, the most common generations are the W220 (1998–2005), W221 (2005–2013), W222 (2013–2020) and the current W223 (since 2020). The W222 brought a major step forward in build quality and technology, while the W223 introduces MBUX Hyperscreen, rear-wheel steering and advanced semi-autonomous driving systems. Older W221 models are affordable and still offer a high level of comfort.
The S-Class offers a wide range of engines — from six-cylinder diesel S 350 d and S 400 d, to V8 petrol S 500 and S 560, and V12 models S 600 and Maybach variants. The current generation also comes with plug-in hybrid versions such as the S 580 e. AIRMATIC air suspension, MAGIC BODY CONTROL and 4MATIC AWD are common equipment items. The gearbox is almost exclusively the 9G-TRONIC automatic.
The S-Class requires careful service-history verification because of its system complexity. Check the condition of the air suspension (older models often need compressor or air spring replacement), and make sure all electronic systems work properly, especially the displays and comfort systems. For diesel engines, pay attention to the DPF filter and EGR valve. Changing the automatic transmission oil every 60,000 km significantly extends its lifespan. A car with documented service from an authorized dealer is recommended.
