Electric SUV models deliver instant torque from the start, quiet driving, and low charging costs compared to fuel. Most current models offer a range of 350 to 500 km on the WLTP cycle. Many models come with all-wheel drive and advanced driver assistance systems.
Among the best-known electric SUV models are the Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX3 and iX, Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQC, Hyundai Kona Electric and Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Niro EV, Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5, and Škoda Enyaq. There is also a growing supply from Chinese brands such as BYD.
The public charging network in Montenegro is expanding, with chargers available in major cities, along the motorway, and in tourist destinations. Home charging (3.7 or 11 kW) tops up the battery overnight. Fast DC chargers can charge from 10 to 80% in 25–45 minutes, depending on the vehicle and charger.
Real-world range depends on the model, driving style, and temperature. Most mid-size models achieve 280–400 km in real conditions, which is less than the WLTP figure. On the motorway and in winter conditions, range can drop by 15–25%.
Home charging is very affordable because electricity prices in Montenegro are among the lowest in the region. Public AC chargers are moderately priced, while fast DC chargers are more expensive per kWh, but still cheaper than fuel for an equivalent trip.
Most manufacturers provide an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty. In practice, batteries in modern EV models retain 80–90% of their capacity after 200,000 km, provided they are used and maintained properly.
