The Duster is by far the dominant Dacia SUV model on the Montenegrin market. It is available in several generations — first (2010–2017), second (2018–2023), and the new third generation. The first and second generations make up most of the used-car supply, with engines ranging from 1.5 to 1.6 liters. The Bigster, a larger family SUV, is gradually entering the market as a new addition to the Dacia lineup.
The Dacia Duster most often comes with a 1.5 dCi diesel engine (90 or 110 HP) and 1.6 SCe or 1.0 TCe petrol units. Hybrid and LPG versions are also being offered more and more often, helping reduce fuel costs. The Duster is available in 4×2 and 4×4 versions — the 4×4 model with raised suspension handles unpaved roads and hilly terrain well, which is practical for Montenegrin conditions.
Dacia models use proven Renault engines, which means affordable and readily available spare parts. When buying a used Duster, ask for the service history and check whether the timing belt has been replaced on schedule. On dCi engines, pay attention to the condition of the turbocharger and injectors. The body panels and interior are simple, which makes repairs after minor damage easier and cheaper.
The Duster is a solidly built SUV with raised suspension and an optional 4×4 drivetrain. It handles gravel and mountain roads well, making it a practical choice for Montenegrin conditions. Maintenance costs are significantly lower than for most SUV competitors.
The second generation (2018–2023) is considered the best-balanced choice — it brings more modern systems while keeping the proven engines of the previous generation. The first generation is even simpler to maintain, but it has weaker sound insulation and less equipment.
