The most common is the A4 B7 (2004–2008) with 1.9 TDI and 2.0 TDI engines, plus the early B8 generation (2008–2011) at the lower end of the budget. The A3 8P (2003–2012) is often available as a hatchback or Sportback, while the A6 C6 (2004–2011) offers more space and equipment. The first-generation Q5 and Q3 are rare in this price range and usually come with high mileage.
For 2.0 TDI PD engines (BKD, BKP), check the injector pump unit and camshaft wear (the well-known "AGR/BMP" defect). With the 1.9 TDI, pay attention to oil cooler leaks and the dual-mass flywheel condition. The Multitronic CVT gearbox in FWD A4 and A6 models is a common source of problems — prefer manual or Tiptronic. In quattro versions, check the Haldex coupling condition and whether the oil has been changed.
Audi vehicles share many components with VW and Škoda, which makes parts affordable and easy to find in Montenegro. Independent workshops in Podgorica and Nikšić work with VAG diagnostics (VCDS), which is essential for proper maintenance of electronic systems. Used parts from the EU are easy to source at fair prices.
The 1.9 TDI with BKE/BXE code (105 HP) is considered one of the most reliable diesel engines in the VAG lineup, with proper maintenance. Among petrol engines, the 1.6 MPI and 2.0 FSI are simple and inexpensive to maintain.
Quattro is useful on Montenegro’s mountain roads and in winter conditions, but older systems with Torsen or Haldex coupling require oil changes every 60,000 km. If not serviced, repairs can cost €600+.
PD (Pumpe-Düse) engines use unit injectors and were fitted to the 2.0 TDI from 2004–2008. The most common issue is camshaft wear and injector wear, which can cost €800–1,500 to repair.
