In the Montenegrin market, the E83 (2003–2010), F25 (2010–2017) and the current G01 (from 2017) are available. The F25 was the first generation produced in the USA and brought a refreshed design and a better interior. The G01 generation uses the lightweight CLAR platform, more advanced driver assistance systems and the xDrive30e hybrid variant. The current version is also available as the fully electric iX3.
The most sought-after versions in Montenegro are the xDrive20d with the B47 diesel engine (190 HP) and the xDrive30d with the B57 engine (265 HP). Petrol versions xDrive20i and xDrive30i use B48 engines. The plug-in hybrid xDrive30e offers up to 50 km in electric mode. The M40d and M40i belong to the sporty range with over 340 HP. xDrive is standard on almost all versions and is especially useful on Montenegro’s mountain roads.
On F25 models, check the condition of the EGR valve and DPF filter, which are common sources of issues on diesel versions. The ZF8HP automatic transmission should be serviced every 80,000–100,000 km. On models with air suspension (M Sport package and higher equipment levels), inspect the condition of the dampers and compressor. Service history and a CARFAX report for imported vehicles are essential.
For most drivers, the xDrive20d is the best choice — it combines 190 HP, low fuel consumption (around 6 l/100 km) and more affordable maintenance costs. If you want more power and comfort, the xDrive30d with an inline six-cylinder engine offers 265 HP with slightly higher consumption.
Regular servicing (oil, filters, brakes) costs from €200 to €450. Major repairs such as EGR replacement, turbo repair or automatic transmission oil service can reach €800–€2,000. It is recommended to service the car at specialist workshops with BMW diagnostics.
